“Agora” the movie (2009)
Is a Spanish movie (2009) written and directed by Alejandro Amenabar (Chilean) about Hypatia of Alexandria, the female philosopher, professor, scientist, mathematician, astronomer and atheist in the time when women were not even expected to have a public life in the Roman Egypt.
Far from being a feminist or atheist movie it does give a clear view of the separation between science and religions and gender equality and political power. Its really not the best historical drama you will see but its a very provocative film to watch in these Easter-religious days.
